Description

This Custom Holocaust-commemorative Hanukkah menorah (Hanukkiah) styled as a framed shadowbox wall piece. It honors a survivor named Edward H. Wynn and contains deeply poignant artifact details related to the Warsaw Ghetto and Nazi labor camps.

Top Inscription: The hand-painted text reads "Edward H. Wynn - Varsha 1937-8". "Varsha" is the phonetic transliteration of Warsaw (Warszawa) in languages like Russian or Hindi. This indicates a connection to pre-war Warsaw, Poland, just before the Nazi invasion in 1939.

Fabric Background: The background inside the glass case features vertical blue and grey/white stripes, explicitly mimicking the concentration camp uniform fabric worn by prisoners in Nazi camps.

The Star of David: A prominent yellow Magen David (Star of David) is placed in the center, symbolizing the badges Jewish people were forced to wear under Nazi decree.

Prisoner Details: Above the star, there is a small fabric block featuring a prisoner number or designation ("125..."). Below the star, faint German text resembles camp administration markings ("XV BLOCK..."), referencing specific barracks or blocks within a concentration camp system.

Menorah Functionality: Fixed along the bottom shelf are eight metal oil cups or candle holders, along with a central or elevated space for a shamash (helper candle), turning this commemorative display into a functional Hanukkah menorah.

This piece serves as a deeply personal memorial item, likely created after World War II to honor a survivor's history or preserve the memory of a family member lost during the Holocaust.
