Description
This is an original German hard-shell holster manufactured by Gustav Genschow & Co. (GECO) for the Browning Hi-Power pistol. The holster features a rigid, molded shell covered in black finish, a sewn edge binding, a flap with retention strap and stamped metal snap, and a sturdy belt loop on the reverse. Construction quality is robust and typical of mid-20th century European holster manufacture, designed for quick draw while protecting the pistol and retaining good form on the belt.
The exterior retains a deep black finish with honest age-related wear consistent with use and storage. Stitching and seams are intact; snap functions correctly; interior shows light wear but no excessive abrasion. Maker marking GECO (Gustav Genschow & Co.) is present, found under the flap or on the rear panel. This holster is correct for Browning Hi-Power pattern pistols and is a great addition to a militaria collection, period display, or as a historically appropriate carry holster for a deactivated or display Hi-Power.
The holster is in Mint condition and shows signs of being issued out and used. The GECO stamp can be found on the front flap just above the securing loop for the leather tongue. The stamp is a large letter “G” with “eco” on the inside of it. GECO Munition is a German company established in 1887. Originally a weapons wholesaler, the company later branched out to producing firearms and ammunition.
History
Gustav Genschow & Co. (GECO) is best known as an ammunition and small-arms supplier based in Germany and neighboring markets during the interwar and WWII periods. While GECO’s primary business was ammunition and small parts, the name also appears on accessories and leather goods produced either in-house or under contract to supply military, police, and commercial markets. Holsters stamped or attributed to GECO were intended to protect and carry semi-automatic service pistols like the Browning Hi-Power, which saw wide use by many European services from the 1930s onward.
