History

Original German gas mask and filter from World War II, along with a gas mask canister. During World War II, gas masks were crucial protective equipment used by military personnel to guard against chemical and biological attacks. The gas mask canisters were used to store and carry the gas masks and their accompanying filters.

German gas masks from World War II came in different models, each with its own unique design and features. One of the most recognizable models is the "GM38," which was widely used by German soldiers during the early stages of the war. The mask had glass eyepieces, a metal frame, and a rubber facepiece. The filter canisters were typically attached to the mask via a threaded connector.

The filters used with these masks were designed to remove or neutralize toxic gases and particulates present in the air. Filters contained various materials like activated charcoal and other chemical agents to absorb harmful substances. Over time, improvements were made in filter technology to better protect soldiers from a wider range of threats.

Gas mask canisters were containers designed to hold spare filters and other accessories. They were usually made of metal or other durable materials to protect the contents from damage. These canisters often had straps or attachment points to make carrying them easier for soldiers.
