History
The WWII German 98K ammo pouch was a type of equipment used by German soldiers during World War II to carry and store ammunition for their Karabiner 98k rifles. The Karabiner 98k, often abbreviated as K98k, was the standard bolt-action rifle used by the German military during the war.
The ammo pouches were typically made from leather or a combination of leather and canvas. They were designed to hold 10-round stripper clips of 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, which was the standard rifle cartridge for the German military at the time. Each pouch usually held two stripper clips, resulting in a total capacity of 20 rounds per pouch.
The design of the pouches evolved over the course of the war due to changing materials availability and production methods. Early versions were often all-leather, while later versions incorporated more canvas and metal components due to resource shortages. The pouches typically featured belt loops on the back, allowing them to be attached to the soldier's belt or to the Y-straps of the equipment harness.
These ammo pouches were an essential part of the German infantryman's kit, as they ensured that soldiers had quick access to additional ammunition in the heat of battle. They played a crucial role in maintaining the firepower and effectiveness of the German infantry on the battlefield.
