Original, Luftwaffe EM/NCO Visor Cap Wreath and Cockade Insignia
The black paint of the cockade shows some wear. The reverse side bears both attachment prongs.
History
The Luftwaffe EM/NCO (Enlisted Men/Non-Commissioned Officer) Visor Cap Wreath and Cockade Insignia were worn by personnel in the German Luftwaffe during World War II. These insignia were attached to the visor caps to denote the rank and branch of service.
The wreath is a metal or embroidered design that encircles the national cockade. It was typically made of aluminum or silver-colored metal for enlisted personnel, while non-commissioned officers often had wreaths made of silver bullion or aluminum wire.
The cockade, which is the roundel insignia, represents the national colors of Germany. In the Luftwaffe, the cockade consisted of a black outer ring, a white inner ring, and a central red circle. This design was similar to the German national flag, with the colors representing the German Reich.
These insignia were worn on the front of the visor cap, just above the black leather chinstrap. The wreath was positioned around the cockade, with the bottom edge of the wreath slightly overlapping the top edge of the cockade.
