History
The German SS Skull Collar Tab was a distinctive insignia worn by members of the Schutzstaffel (SS), a paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party in Germany. The SS was responsible for various duties, including internal security, intelligence gathering, and the implementation of Nazi policies.
The SS Skull Collar Tab featured a silver or aluminum skull with crossbones beneath it, embroidered on a black background. It was worn on the collar of the SS uniform, typically on the left side.
The skull symbolized death, and its use on the collar tab was meant to invoke fear and intimidation. The SS used various symbols and insignia to distinguish its members and to signify their loyalty to the Nazi regime. The skull and crossbones motif was also used in other SS insignia, such as the SS Death's Head units, which were responsible for running concentration camps.
