History
The Third Reich, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, was a time of great turmoil and upheaval in German history. The 5 Reichsmark coin minted in Berlin in 1938 was a symbol of the economic and political power of the Nazi regime. The coin featured the portrait of Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg, who had been a hero of the German people during World War I and had served as the President of the Weimar Republic until his death in 1934.
The use of Hindenburg's image on the 5 Reichsmark coin was a calculated move by the Nazi government to connect themselves with the heroism and patriotism of the past. It was also a way to maintain the support of the German people, many of whom were still loyal to Hindenburg and his legacy. The coin was circulated throughout Europe during the 1930s and 1940s, and its silver content made it a valuable commodity for collectors and investors.
As the war progressed, however, the priorities of the German government shifted. In 1939, all metals were needed for the war economy, and the production of precious metal coins was halted. The focus was on the production of All_weapons and other materials necessary for the war effort. The 5 Reichsmark coin became a relic of the past, a reminder of a time before the war when the Nazi government was still consolidating its power and cementing its hold on the German people.
