Description

This Original Third Reich-era German National Socialist Women’s League (NS-Frauenschaft) Orts-level membership badge, bearing the desirable RZM maker code M1/13. This period political organization badge remains in excellent condition and represents an interesting example of the insignia worn by members of the NS-Frauenschaft at the local Ortsgruppe level.

Historical Background

The Nationalsozialistische Frauenschaft (NS-Frauenschaft or NSF) served as the principal women’s organization of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). Formally established in the early 1930s, the organization incorporated and coordinated numerous existing National Socialist women’s groups.

Like other NSDAP organizations, the NS-Frauenschaft operated through a structured hierarchy. The Ortsgruppe, or local group, formed an important level of this organization and administered activities within individual towns and communities.

Membership and organizational insignia were produced under the supervision of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM), the NSDAP’s equipment and procurement authority. RZM markings and manufacturer codes were intended to identify firms authorized to manufacture regulated party insignia and equipment.

RZM M1/13 Marking

The reverse of this example is marked with the RZM identification and M1/13 manufacturer code. The “M1” classification was assigned to manufacturers of metal insignia, while the numerical suffix identified the authorized manufacturer.

The presence and configuration of the RZM markings are important characteristics for collectors when evaluating period political badges, although markings should always be considered together with construction, materials, hardware, enamel work, dimensions, and overall manufacturing characteristics when determining authenticity.
