Description
This is a very nice original early WWII U.S. M11 Practice Rifle Grenade, the training version of the M9 Anti-Tank Rifle Grenade. Introduced in 1940, the M9 represented the first anti-tank rifle grenade adopted by the United States military and utilized a shaped-charge warhead designed to defeat armored vehicles. The M11 was developed as an inert training counterpart, allowing troops to safely practice launching and handling the grenade in preparation for combat use.
The grenade features the correct cast iron practice head coupled with a sheet-metal tail assembly, retaining the distinctive profile of the wartime M9 design. Production of the M9/M11 series was relatively short-lived, lasting only about two years before more effective anti-tank grenade designs entered service, making original examples increasingly difficult to find today.
Measuring approximately 9.2 inches in length with a 2-inch diameter head, this original M11 practice grenade has been professionally repainted for preservation and display purposes. The grenade remains structurally sound and displays exceptionally well, with crisp contours and an attractive finish. Overall condition is excellent, making it a desirable addition to any WWII U.S. ordnance, rifle grenade, or military training equipment collection.
A scarce and historically significant example of early American anti-tank weapons development during the Second World War.
