Description
An outstanding original WWI U.S. Inter-Allied Victory Medal with France Campaign Clasp. The World War I U.S. Inter-Allied Victory Medal was awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces after World War I. This medal was awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces that served between April 6, 1917, and November 11, 1918. The award was awarded with officially authorized battle and service bars, or clasps, that denoted particular campaigns in which a recipient was engaged. The recipient was awarded the official ribbon of the medal for general service in World War I, and the particular clasp(s) for specific campaigns in which the recipient had fought.
The France Clasp was awarded to service members that served within the boundaries of France but did not serve in a specific enough area to be awarded one of the other battle and service clasps. This clasp represents the men that served in a wide geographic area, but still saw combat or were stationed in support roles of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF).
This original mint medal is suspended from a double-rainbow silk ribbon. The medal and ribbon show exceptional original finish and have sharp raised details. The ribbon is still very bright and has no fraying, staining or excessive wear. The bronze France clasp is firmly mounted to the ribbon center and has crisp raised lettering and excellent original patina.
The obverse of the medal depicts the winged figure of Victory. The reverse side has the inscription “The Great War for Civilization” and lists the names of the Allied and Associated Nations who fought in the conflict. The detail on both sides of the medal is excellent and is one of the main reasons for the overall excellent condition of the medal.

Historical Note: In the aftermath of World War I the Allied nations agreed to a joint medal to be awarded by all participating nations. The ribbons were to be of the same design, however each nation was left to their own design for the medal itself. The United States Inter-Allied Victory Medal was adopted in 1919 and is one of the most recognizable of the World War I awards, as well as being one of the most historically significant.
