This original Deutsches Kreuz in Gold by C.F. Zimmermann, maker marked L/52, is an exceptional original Third Reich combat decoration in excellent condition. Instituted on September 28, 1941, the German Cross in Gold was awarded to soldiers for repeated acts of bravery and distinguished combat leadership, ranking above the Iron Cross First Class and below the Knight’s Cross.
This fine wartime example features the classic multi-piece construction associated with quality Zimmermann production, consisting of a striking black enamel swastika centered on a bright silvered sunburst, surrounded by a detailed gilt laurel wreath dated “1941”, all set against the distinctive deep red enamel field. The reverse retains its correct hardware with pin, hinge, and catch assembly, and is crisply maker marked L/52, the wartime code for the renowned firm C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim.
Zimmermann-produced German Crosses are highly regarded among collectors for their precise craftsmanship, attractive finish, and historical significance.
