Description
This is an original and rare WWII German Zero Series Third Variation Walther P.38 pistol, manufactured in 1940 by Walther (ac code) as part of the earliest production run of P.38 pistols issued to the Wehrmacht. Known as the “Zero Series” due to the serial numbers beginning with a zero prefix, this Third Variation is highly collectible and historically significant as it represents a transitional design leading to full wartime production.
History
The Third Variation features hallmark characteristics including:
- Serial number range beginning with 0 (e.g., 0xxxx)
- Commercial blue finish with early high-quality machining
- Walther banner on the left slide
- Eagle/359 Waffenamt inspection marks
- Rectangular firing pin
- Milled trigger and extractor
- No letter suffix in the serial number
This model includes matching numbers on the slide, frame, and barrel, and retains its original black bakelite grips and early magazine with pinned base, marked with the correct early wartime proof codes.
As one of the last variants before major wartime cost-saving production changes, the Zero Series Third Variation P.38 bridges the gap between pre-war craftsmanship and wartime necessity. Highly sought after by collectors, it represents a key piece in the evolution of German WWII sidearms.
