History
This is an original World War II German byf 43 P.38 semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm, manufactured in 1943 by Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf am Neckar. The "byf" production code and "43" date stamp on the left side of the slide indicate wartime manufacture under German military contract during a pivotal year of the conflict.
The P.38 was adopted as the standard service pistol of the Wehrmacht, replacing the Luger P.08 due to its simplified design, double-action trigger mechanism, and easier production methods. The byf 43 variant features the distinctive wartime machining marks, phosphate or blued finish (depending on production period), and factory-inspected Waffenamtacceptance stamps on key components.
This specimen is all-matching, with the slide, frame, and barrel properly numbered and exhibiting consistent wear. The grips are original black Bakelite, and the pistol retains its correct 8-round magazine. These Mauser-produced models are particularly desirable among collectors for their quality and documented combat use across multiple theaters.
An authentic and historically significant sidearm, the 1943 byf 43 P.38 represents a key piece of German WWII military history. Perfect for collectors of wartime firearms, German militaria, or those seeking a representative example of the iconic P.38.
