Description
This is an original WWII German Mauser P.08 Luger pistol, bearing the correct “42” Mauser factory code over the chamber with 1940 date, manufactured at the Mauser-Werke Oberndorf am Neckar plant for Wehrmacht issue during the early war period. The pistol is in excellent condition and retains all-matching serial numbers, making it a highly desirable collector-grade example of a wartime Mauser Luger.
This particular pistol is in exceptional condition, retaining approximately 98% of its original blued finish with sharp markings and minimal wear. Even more impressive, it has all matching serial numbers, a rare and desirable feature among collectors. The bore is excellent, showing strong rifling and a clean, bright interior.
This 1940 production Luger represents the transition period of Mauser military manufacture, still showing high machining quality while incorporating wartime simplifications. Pistols marked with the 42 code were produced for the German Army before Mauser switched to the later byf code designation.

Historical Background
The Mauser 42-code Lugers dated 1940 were issued primarily to the Heer (German Army) and saw service throughout WWII, including early campaigns in France, Poland, and the Eastern Front. By 1941 Mauser changed the factory code to byf, making the 42/1940 variation one of the last Lugers produced under the earlier code system.
Because of their quality machining, matching parts, and wartime markings, these pistols remain among the most sought-after variations of the WWII military P.08 Luger.
