Offered here is an original World War II Imperial Japanese Army Type 14 Nambu semi-automatic pistol, chambered in 8mm Nambu and manufactured in 1945 by the Nagoya Army Arsenal, Toriimatsu Factory. Produced during the final year of World War II, this example represents the distinctive late-war production characteristics associated with Japanese military sidearms manufactured under increasingly difficult wartime conditions.
The Type 14 Nambu was one of the principal service pistols of the Imperial Japanese Army and was widely issued to officers, non-commissioned officers, and other military personnel. Designed as an evolution of Kijir? Nambu’s earlier pistol designs, the Type 14 was formally adopted in 1925 and remained in military service throughout Japan’s campaigns in China, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia.
This 1945 example was manufactured at the Toriimatsu production facility associated with Nagoya Arsenal, an important center of Type 14 production during the later years of the war.
