Description:
This Original WW2 Japanese Manchurian Incident War Medal in Case. A highly sought-after piece of Imperial Japanese militaria awarded to Military Units and Organizations who served in Manchuria between 1931 and 1934. This War Medal was officially issued in 1934 to commemorate the early stages of Japan’s invasion of China when Japan caused the Mukden Incident that led to the establishment of Manchukuo in Manchurian China. This is a very fine example of a WW2 Japanese medal, presented in the original case, of which Cased examples are becoming increasingly rare. The Bronze Medal has sharp details and a pleasing old patina. The Obverse features the Imperial Chrysanthemum above a spread-winged Golden Kite, resting upon a Samurai Shield, with radiating Sunburst lines in the background. All of this symbolizes the Power of the Imperial Japanese Military and their Loyalty to the Emperor. The reverse of the medal depicts a military Army helmet next to a Navy helmet amidst the blossoms of a cherry tree. The incident being commemorated is shown in the title ‘Showa Years 6–9 Incident’ (1931–1934) on the reverse of the medal. The medal is complete with its original suspension bar and ribbon. The ribbon is multi-colored with alternate wide and narrow stripes of red, white, blue, white, blue, white, green, white, orange, white, and purple. The medal comes with the original presentation case, complete with the gold lettered Japanese characters on the lid. The interior of the case has a spotless, well maintained, protective lining, with the medal displayed correctly. The case itself is rare, especially when found with the original finish intact and the ribbon in perfect condition as is the case here. A fine collector-grade example of an early Imperial Japanese campaign medal issued for one of the most significant events of the Japanese went to war over leading up to World War 2 in the Pacific.
