The reverse carries the RZM maker's mark M1/4, Ges. Gesch. This is a fairly large badge at 1 3/8" diameter and it has a typical pin back attachment. The front depicts both the Nazi and Japanese flags, Hitler Youth eagle and the 1944 date.
The alliance between Nazi Germany and Japan during World War II was known as the Axis alliance. While I don't have access to specific information on an enameled pin from 1944, it's possible that such pins existed as propaganda or commemorative items during that time. The pin you mentioned could have been a symbol of the alliance between Germany and Japan, displaying elements or symbols associated with both countries.
During World War II, Germany and Japan formed a strategic alliance primarily driven by their common enemies—the Allied powers, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. The Axis alliance was not only a military partnership but also included economic cooperation and the sharing of technology and resources.
The significance and design of specific pins from that era can vary. They could have featured national symbols, military emblems, or slogans associated with the Nazi regime or Imperial Japan. Enameled pins were a common form of propaganda and a way to demonstrate loyalty to the Axis cause.
