Description
This is a genuine WW2 issue wrist compass that served in Airborne troops during D-Day operations. This is a wartime model. This fully operational example maintains its liquid filling and shows excellent condition while displaying markings on the back side. The over-all condition of this compass is near mint. The leather straps are in very good original condition.
History
The Taylor Instrument Companies produced this exceptional World War II-era U.S. Army paratrooper wrist or arm compass. The specialized compass served airborne troops for parachute operations and night navigation. The Bakelite case of this rugged compass contains liquid which stabilizes the needle to provide reliable directional readings when the user moves or descends through the air. The face of the compass features luminous cardinal points and degree graduations which enable users to see directions in low-light combat environments. The bezel of this compass allows users to set directions. The military-issue compass came with an olive drab canvas strap and metal buckle for wrist or sleeve attachment which provided quick access during field operations.
