Description:
This is an original all-matching U.S. Model 1911A1 pistol manufactured by Colt in 1943, retaining its correct wartime configuration and factory markings. The left side of the slide is properly marked with the standard two-line Colt address, while the right side of the frame shows the correct Model designation, serial number, and U.S. Army property markings, all consistent with mid-war Colt production.
Correct proof marks are present, including the “P” proof on top of the slide and matching “P” on the left side of the frame below the magazine release, both lightly struck and only faintly breaking through the original parkerized finish, as commonly observed on authentic wartime pistols. The left side of the frame bears the proper “GHD” inspector mark (Brig. Gen. Guy H. Drewry), with the ordnance wheel inspection stamp lightly visible on the right rear of the frame near the tang, again typical of original finish examples.
The pistol is fitted with the proper serrated front sight and drift-adjustable rear sight, along with correct wartime small parts including the checkered slide stop, checkered thumb safety, checkered hammer, and short grip safety. The grips are the correct Keyes Fiber brown plastic grips with reinforcing rings around the screw holes, correct for 1943 production.
The magazine is a proper blued wartime magazine marked with an “L” on the toe, consistent with correct subcontract production for Colt pistols of this period.
Field inspection confirms matching internal characteristics, with the left side of the chamber marked “COLT 45 AUTO”, and the barrel lug marked with a “P” on the left side and blank on the right, all consistent with original Colt-produced barrels used during 1943 manufacture.
