Description:
An excellent example of an original, World War II Black Porcelain Enamel-Coated Steel one-quarter Canteen with Canvas Cover in Near Mint condition. This original World War II U.S. Army black porcelain enamel canteen comes with its khaki canvas cover in excellent condition. The one-quart capacity canteen served as the standard model which American soldiers used throughout the entire war. The steel construction of this canteen received a glossy black porcelain enamel finish to achieve both durability and corrosion resistance during military operations. The khaki canvas cover shows near perfect condition with its correct WWII-era lift-the-dot snap fasteners and "U.S." stamped insignia. The canteen contains an internal wool felt lining which serves two purposes: it provides insulation and helps with cooling through evaporation when dampened. The canteen maintains its original black enamel finish with only slight signs of wear which suggests it remained unused in the field.
History:
The authentic World War II U.S. Army canteen demonstrates exceptional wartime functionality through its design. The black porcelain enamel finish on steel made this canteen a standard military issue for American soldiers during the early to mid-war period. The corrosion-resistant coating proved perfect for maintaining the canteen's structure when soldiers used it in harsh battlefield environments. The canteen came with a khaki canvas carrier which provided soldiers with both practicality and easy access. The carrier contains a strong flap with "U.S." written on the front and uses metal snap closures which enable soldiers to access their canteen during combat or while marching. The canvas pouch includes a belt hook at the back which allows users to connect it to M1910 or M1923 equipment belts. The complete set represents the standard hydration equipment which infantrymen and medics and support personnel used throughout different Second World War theaters including European and Pacific island operations. This genuine collectible showcases the functional design and battle-tested functionality of U.S. Army equipment during a crucial military period in history.
