History

The German M31 Mess Kit, also known as the Wehrmacht-Einheitsfeldflasche or Wehrmacht Kochgeschirr, was a standard mess kit used by the German military during World War II. It was a common piece of equipment issued to German soldiers and consisted of a metal container for food and a separate container for water. These mess kits were typically made from aluminum or steel and were designed to be compact and durable for field use.

There were variations of the M31 Mess Kit, and the specific features and markings could vary depending on the manufacturer and the time period in which they were produced. The green color you mentioned could be a reference to the paint used on some Mess Kits, but it's important to note that not all M31 Mess Kits were green; they could also be found in other colors or unpainted metal.

The extra holder refers to a carrying strap or belt loop attachment that allowed soldiers to carry their mess kits more conveniently.
