History:

The Yugoslavian Model 59/66 SKS is a highly regarded military rifle known for its robust design, reliability, and historical significance. This semi-automatic rifle has its roots in post-World War II firearms development and holds a special place in military history, particularly in Eastern Europe.

The Model 59/66 SKS was produced in Yugoslavia during the Cold War era, building on the original Soviet SKS-45 design. It was manufactured by Zastava Arms, one of Yugoslavia's premier arms manufacturers, with production beginning in the 1960s. Unlike the standard SKS-45, the Model 59/66 was equipped with a few key enhancements that made it uniquely suited for Yugoslavian military needs.

Features

  1. Caliber and Ammunition
    • Chambered in 7.62×39mm, a widely used cartridge in Eastern Bloc countries.
    • Accepts stripper clips for loading, holding 10 rounds in an internal magazine.
  2. Design Enhancements
    • Grenade Launcher: One of the defining features of the Model 59/66 is its integrated grenade launcher, capable of launching 22mm NATO-standard rifle grenades.
    • Gas Shut-Off Valve: A switchable valve allows the rifle to cycle semi-automatically for standard use or switch to single-shot mode for grenade launching.
    • Night Sights: Some models include flip-up night sights, designed for use with grenades or during low-light conditions.
  3. Durable Construction
    • The Model 59/66 features a robust milled steel receiver and a hardwood stock, ensuring durability in demanding environments.
    • Barrel length: 20.5 inches, providing excellent accuracy.
  4. Bayonet
    • Comes with a folding blade bayonet, adding versatility in close-combat scenarios.
