Description
This is a very rare German Waffen SS "Das Reich" Panzer Division Soldier Identification Tag from the elite 2nd SS Panzer Division. The markings are very clear and the condidtion of this tag Near Mint.
History
During World War II, German military personnel were issued Erkennungsmarken, or identification tags, for purposes of identification in the event of injury or death. These were worn by all branches of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS, including the elite 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" — one of the most renowned and controversial divisions of the Waffen-SS.
Design & Features:
A typical Waffen-SS Erkennungsmarke featured:
- Material: Usually made from zinc or aluminum.
- Shape: Oval, approximately 70mm x 50mm.
- Perforation: A horizontal perforation across the center, allowing the tag to be broken in half.
