Description
This original German NSDAP (Nazi Party) Ortsgruppe Level, NSDAP Political Leader’s Visor Cap. Khaki gabardine wool construction with white waffenfarbe, gilded Eagle and wreathed cockade. Brown velvet band and gold bullion chin cord. Leather sweatband present. Maker mark of K Feltermeier present.
This example is a 1939-pattern NSDAP visor cap constructed from tan-colored, fine whipcord-weave wool/rayon. The cap features a one-piece circular crown, piped in blue, and a body segmented by seams at each of the four cardinal points. It is fitted with a one-piece, light brown velvet center band, also trimmed with blue piping at both the top and bottom edges. The rear of the band is joined by a vertical seam. A chocolate brown vulcanfibre visor with a lacquered finish completes the lower edge. The blue piping and light brown velvet band identify this cap as belonging to the Ortsgruppe level (Local Group). Mounted on the front center seam is a 1939-pattern gilt-colored alloy eagle, slightly convex, clutching a mobile swastika enclosed in a wreath. Below it sits a gold anodized, stamped alloy oak-leaf wreath with a three-piece cockade at its center. The wreath consists of eight pebbled oak leaves—four on each side—flanking a simulated vertical “cord” with four raised beads. This style of wreath was worn by party members holding the rank of Hauptgemeinschaftsleiter(comparable to a Second Lieutenant).
Positioned between the center band and the visor is a gilt wire chin cord, secured at each side by gilt-washed, pebbled metal buttons. This gold coloration confirms the wearer held the rank of Ortsgruppenleiter, as lower-ranking members typically wore silver chin cords and buttons.
The cap exemplifies the detailed rank and organizational distinctions within the NSDAP through its precise materials, colors, and insignia.
History
The NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers’ Party) was organized into four ascending levels of government: Ortsgruppenleitung (Local Group), Kreisleitung (County Level), Gauleitung (District Level), and Reichsleitung(National Level). Each level was visually distinguished by specific piping colors on the collar tabs and visor caps.
This authentic WWII German NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers' Party) Kreisleiter Visor Cap represents the high-ranking political leadership at the district level during the Third Reich era. Issued in 1939, this cap was worn by Kreisleiter officials—senior party administrators responsible for overseeing operations within a Kreis (district)—making it a significant political uniform item of the time.
The cap features the signature golden brown wool trikot fabric, denoting its political affiliation, along with a dark brown velvet cap band and golden-brown piping, all in accordance with the 1939 NSDAP regulations. The gold bullion embroidered national eagle and oak leaf wreath with cockade are prominently displayed on the front, signifying the rank of Kreisleiter. It includes the distinctive gold party cap cords and a brown vulkanfiber visor—a standard trait for NSDAP political leaders’ headgear.
The interior is typically lined in rayon with a celluloid sweat shield and may bear maker marks such as "Robert Lubstein, Erel, Berlin" or "Carl Dieckhoff", depending on the manufacturer. Some examples include RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei) tags under the sweatband, confirming regulation compliance and authenticity.
Highly collectible due to its rarity and association with the NSDAP’s political hierarchy, the Kreisleiter visor cap stands as a stark artifact from one of the most pivotal and controversial periods in 20th-century history.
