Description
This is an German MP43/1 Semi-Auto Machine Gun is D-K Production Group Very High-Quality Reproduction of the famous STG44, Sturmgewehr 44, considered to be the first successful assault rifle. It fires 7.92×33 (8mm kurz) rounds, from a 30-round magazine.
This rifle has a scope rail for the ZF41 on the back sight base. They also have a thicker barrel, larger front sight holders, and the same muzzle nut as the MKB42H. This rifle also features a larger buttstock. This MP43/1 is a very high-quality newly manufactured firearm, not a re-welded original. The DK Product Group uses a mix of forged and stamped parts to replicate the original manufacturing process. Around 30000 of these rifles were made during WW2. Please make sure this rifle is legal in your state, before placing an order.
History
The Maschinenpistole 43 (MP43), later designated the Sturmgewehr 44 (StG44), was the world’s first true assault rifle. Developed under the German Wehrmacht during World War II, it bridged the gap between submachine guns and full-power rifles. Prior to its introduction, infantry combat relied heavily on bolt-action rifles like the Karabiner 98k or submachine guns like the MP40, each with limitations.
The MP43 was born from the German desire to create a lightweight automatic weapon chambered in an intermediate cartridge, the 7.92×33mm Kurz (short). This round provided controllable automatic fire with better range than a pistol cartridge, yet less recoil than the full-sized Mauser round.
Design Features
- Caliber: 7.92×33mm Kurz
- Operation: Gas-operated, selective-fire (semi-automatic & fully automatic)
- Magazine: Detachable curved box magazine, 30 rounds
- Rate of Fire: Approx. 500–600 rounds per minute
- Effective Range: 300–400 meters in combat use
- Construction: Stamped and welded steel components to ease mass production
- Weight: Around 11.5 lbs (5.2 kg) loaded
The weapon featured a straight-line stock design, which helped mitigate recoil, and a pistol grip that improved handling. These innovations heavily influenced postwar designs, including the Soviet AK-47 and later Western assault rifles.
Combat Use
First issued in 1943 to units on the Eastern Front, particularly against the Soviet Red Army, the MP43 quickly proved its effectiveness. German soldiers found it ideal for both close-quarters and medium-range engagements, making it especially suited to the fluid, combined-arms warfare of the Eastern Front.
Adolf Hitler, initially skeptical of the project, eventually gave his approval after battlefield reports demonstrated the weapon’s superiority. It was later renamed Sturmgewehr 44 (StG44), or “Storm Rifle,” a name chosen for propaganda value and to highlight its offensive nature.
Impact on Warfare
The MP43/StG44 fundamentally changed infantry tactics:
- Provided individual soldiers with automatic firepower at ranges previously reserved for machine guns.
- Allowed German squads to fight more flexibly and effectively in both defense and offense.
- Its concept of the intermediate cartridge assault rifle became the standard for all modern infantry rifles.
Although introduced too late and in too few numbers to alter the outcome of the war, the MP43 was a revolutionary weapon, cementing its place as one of the most influential firearms in military history.
